HELENA FRIESEN (nee SUDERMAN) Peacefully on Wednesday, December 17, 2003, Helena (nee Suderman) Friesen, wife of the late Nick Friesen, passed away at the Boyne Lodge, in Carman, MB. She reached the age of 94. Left to cherish her memory are her seven children, Dave (Doris), Abe (Marie), Menno (Shirley), John (Mari), Margaret (Alvin), Susan (Don), and Leonard (Frances). She also leaves to mourn 18 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Justina Hoeppner and Mary Dyck; and numerous nieces and nephews. Helena was born and raised in the Greenfarm area, near Winkler, MB. She and Nick Friesen, were married in 1933. They farmed at a couple of locations in southern Manitoba before settling at Elm Creek, MB in 1950. After retiring from farming in 1975, they moved to their "dream home" in the town of Elm Creek. There they enjoyed raising vegetables, roses, and a variety of other flowers! After becoming a widow in 1995, Helena moved to the Manor in Elm Creek. In January, 2003, she moved to the Boyne Lodge in Carman. Helena derived a lot of joy from tending to the needs of her family. It was important to her that all who came into her home, were well fed. As a strong believer in Jesus, as her Saviour, she attended church regularly and read the Bible daily. Her strongest testimony was her daily walk with the Lord. She was a peaceful, gentle soul, who was loved by all. Psalm 116:15, "Precious in the sight of the Lord, is the death of His saints". She leaves behind a loving family, who is saddened by her passing. Pallbearers will be all her children, Dave, Abe, Menno, John, Margaret, Susan and Leonard. The family wishes to invite friends and relatives to her funeral to celebrate her life. The funeral will take place at the Elm Creek Mennonite Brethren Church on December 22 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place in the Elm Creek Cemetery. Viewing prior to the service The family wishes to thank the staff at the Boyne Lodge in Carman, for the loving care she received. She was content and at peace during her stay there. Now she is "forever with the Lord, Amen". If friends or family wish, a donation in Helenas memory may be made to the Canadian Bible Society, 952 St. Marys Rd., Winnipeg, MB R2M 3K6.
