FRED TOLL It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Fred Toll at age 79, on December 4, 2003, with his family at his side. He will be deeply missed by his daughters, Carla Toll-Borecky and Sherri Gerstein and husband Paul, and grandchildren, Alex, Mark, Aleeza and Michael. He will also be missed by his sister Anne and husband Dave Singer, brother Norman and wife Dolly Tolchinsky, sisters-in-law, Zelma Toll and Ida Sokolow as well as numerous nieces and nephews, friends, neighbours and colleagues. He was predeceased by Gertie, his beloved wife of 42 years, as well as his brothers, Joe and Sam, sisters-in-law, Rosie and Elsie and brothers-in-law, Morris, Izzy, Frankie and Davey. Dad was born in Winnipeg in 1924. He graduated from the University of Manitoba and obtained his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Chicago. He worked for Blue Cross and Manitoba Health Services Commission, retiring from the position of Head of Statistics in 1988 after 38 years of service. Dad continued to do consulting work for the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy until his death. He volunteered for many different organizations, too numerous to mention. His garden was his passion, and he loved to share its bounty with family, friends and neighbours. Although Dad was a quiet and private man, he had a witty sense of humour. He will always be remembered for his thoughtfulness and generous nature. Special thanks to his wonderful next door neighbours. A graveside service was held at Rosh Pina Cemetery on December 7. Friends who wish to do so may make a donation in his memory to Chevra Mishnayes Synagogue or charity of their choice.
