Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH LONGSTAFFE (nee THORKELSON) After a brief illness, on December 20, 2003 at 93 years of age. Elizabeth was born on September 11, 1920 at High Bluff, Manitoba. She was the sixth of nine children born to Arthur Peter and Annie May Thorkelson. After finishing grade 11, she went on with her sister Emle to attend Winnipeg Bible College. Later in life she was proud to complete her GED for grade twelve equivalency. Elizabeth met her first husband, Walter Hlady, while she was working at the newspaper as a reporter in Flin Flon, Manitoba. They were married by the Salvation Army in July 1951, and had one daughter Shelley. Returning to Winnipeg in 1953 with her daughter, Elizabeth contracted polio in May and was hospitalized for six months. For the next eight years she and her daughter resided with other family members while she was rebuilding her life. In August 1975, she married Robert Longstaffe, a friend of many years. Robert took loving care of her in their home in Westwood until further illness required her admission to the Maples Personal Care Home in January 2000. She is survived by her husband Robert, daughter Shelley, sisters May Parker, Winnifred Rogers, and Emle Thokelson, and brother Donovan Thorkelson. She was predeceased by her brothers Earl, Reginald, Thomas and William. Funeral service 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 23 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street.
