Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN BUECKERT Born on her familys farm near Rosenfeld, MB on January 4, 1921, Helen (Helena) Bueckert passed away December 25, 2003 at the Riverview Health Centre. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her husband, Peter Loewen, sons Rick and Lindsay (Laura Jean), Peters children Joanne (Lothar Dahlke), Gail (Don Burton) and Cameron. She also leaves her brothers and their families: Ed and Hilda, Bernie and Margaret, Henry and Katherine; sisters-in-law Teenie Funk, Trudy Funk and Erna Rinella and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her first husband Peter Bueckert in 1981, by her parents, Henry A. and Anna (Dueck) Funk, and two brothers, Bill and Tony. Helen lived and helped on the family farm until she graduated from high school, when she enrolled in the St. Boniface School of Nursing. She trained in many wards and earned a reputation for remaining cool and calm in the face of any emergency. After graduation she worked at the Winkler Hospital and the Winkler Clinic. While working in Winkler, she met Peter Bueckert and the couple married in 1949. Together, they raised their two boys, building businesses in Winkler and later in Winnipeg. As Peters health declined they sold the restaurant businesses they had run with their sons, and not long after Peters death in 1981 Helen moved to Bethel Place. A few years later, Helen met Peter Loewen, a fellow volunteer at Home Street Church, and they were married in 1988. The two took many trips, enjoying Canada, and even venturing as far north as Inuvik to visit family. While at home, they both served the Bethel Place community as volunteers in various capacities. Helen was confident in her faith and grateful for her blessings. She enjoyed her hobbies of reading and knitting, singing in the choir and preparing family feasts. She was given the opportunity to create a book of memories for her family, and spent a great deal of time and effort preparing a series of booklets recounting her lifes activities and those of the people she encountered, giving her sons a wonderful glimpse into their history. Her great joy was in getting together with family and she helped initiate and organize several monumental family gatherings, bringing together all the aunts, uncles, cousins and newcomers to the family, for good food and good fellowship. The family would like to express its sincere appreciation to Helens many friends who called, sent messages and visited during her illness, and extends its gratitude to the wonderful staff of 3E for their compassion and care during Helens stay at Riverview. A memorial service will be held at Bethel Mennonite Church, 870 Carter Ave. at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 29, with Pastor Bernie Wiebe officiating. Flowers gratefully declined. Friends wishing to honour Helens memory may choose to make a donation to MCC or a charity of your choice. KLASSEN Funeral Chapel 1897 Henderson-North of McIvor-338-0331
