RONALD "RON" HILMAR EYOLFSON Ron passed away on December 26, 2003 at the age of 94. He was born on March 12, 1909 in the District of Hove (Vestfold) in Manitobas Interlake area and attended Haland School. Following his graduation from high school, Ron took a Dairy Science course at the University of Manitoba. This training gave him the necessary skills and experience for his chosen career. Rons first employment experience was at Kinelmeakey Farm which was one of only two farms producing unpasteurized but certified milk for city delivery. He then gained additional experience at Canada Pure Milk "City Dairy" and St. Andrews Dairy. Ron then worked for 18 years at Modern Dairies and 25 years at Safeways Lucerne Dairies until his retirement in 1974. His family members and friends were all very aware of the pride he felt in being a Safeway employee where he held positions first in milk processing and later as a power engineer and as an equipment maintenance staff member. Ron was predeceased by his first caring wife, the former Beth McMaster in 1972 after 37 years of marriage and his second wife, the former Alida Isford in 1992. He was also predeceased by daughters-in-law, Rosemarie and Leanne; sisters, Bertha and Lillian; brothers, Herbert and Allan and stepsons, Edwin and Oliver. Ron leaves to mourn his passing his son Glen (Jane) and granddaughters, Kristine and Lindsay in Scotland; his son Derek and his former wife Heather and grandchildren, Jordan and Jessica of Winnipeg; stepsons, George (Hazel) of Toronto, Arnold of Los Angeles, Fred of Winnipeg; his brother Laurence (Lillian) and sister Herdis Maddin; sister-in-law Evelyn Eyolfson; stepdaughters, Olive Gyles and Marie Isford and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Ron was a faithful long-term member of the First Lutheran Church where he served on several committees and enjoyed looking after the boiler and maintenance of the church as long as he was able. Ron was also a founding member of Betelstadur Co-op Housing where he has resided since 1987. He was very interested in the welfare of the residents and was always willing to help them. In addition to his career and volunteer work, Ron enjoyed his garden and his cottage at Loni Beach in Gimli where he was always happy to help others. He was especially proud of his Icelandic heritage. Ron demonstrated this pride through his Icelandic baking and preparation of traditional Icelandic dishes such as brown bread, mysuostur, ponnukokur and skyr. Viewing will take place at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave., entrance on Aubrey Street, on Monday, December 29 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 30 at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, 580 Victor St. with Pastor Michael Kurtz officiating.
