ORVILLE LAWRENCE LOUNSBURY 1912 - 2003 Peacefully on Wednesday, December 24, 2003, at the Tiger Hills Health Centre with his family by his side, Orville Lounsbury, dearly beloved husband of the late Megan (nee Jones) Lounsbury, passed away, at the age of 91. Left to cherish Orvilles memory are his children, Brian Lounsbury and Shirley Trollope, Marilyn and Hanley Gates, Bruce and Joyce Lounsbury, Donald and Vicky Lounsbury, Edward and Dorothy Lounsbury, Irene and Allen Nicoll, Ron and Bonnie Lounsbury, Evan and Janice Lounsbury, as well as 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister Kathleen Hurst, one brother Allan and wife Raebelle and one sister-in-law Beryl Jones, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Orville was predeceased by his wife Megan in 1990; by three sons, David, Gerald, and Larry; by his mother Myrtle (Dobbin) Lounsbury; and father Oscar Lounsbury; by four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Vera and Oliver Dash, Mabel and George McGill, Mildred and Jack Campbell, and Velda Lounsbury; and by one brother Elmer Lounsbury; and brother-in-law Wes Hurst. Orville was the fourth child of a family of eight, born on December 7, 1912 to Oscar and Myrtle Lounsbury. He was born in the Treherne District and lived all of his life in the area. On May 22, 1941 he married Megan Jones of Winnipeg, and together they were blessed with a family of 11 children. Orville and Megan lived on a farm northwest of Treherne, where he resided until 1991, when he moved to Treherne. Over the last few years of his life he resided in the Treherne Villa and Treherne Personal Care Home. Orville loved to dance to the old tyme music, the old tyme waltz being his favourite. Many an evening was spent attending dances, whether it be at a barn dance, at a hall, or at a house party. No distance was too far to travel. The family can recall Orville singing a little ditty, particularly two songs come to their minds, that were his favourites, these having been handed down to him by his mother. They were "Ill Be All Smiles Tonight Love", and "Johnny Sands". Then in the 1960s, a song that was on the hit parade at the time, was also added to his list of favourites "There Goes My Everything". Orville always had a special interest in farming and enjoyed gardening, giving away a lot of his vegetables. He was known for his sense of humour and quick wit and often brought a chuckle to others. Anyone who wanted to know any family history or anyone birthdays or anniversary, had only to give Orville a call. Through the years Orville kept up to date on current affairs, by reading magazines and newspapers, which he read from front to back, by watching the news and participating in numerous chats with family and friends. Orville had a great appreciation for the staff at the Tiger Hills Health Centre for all the care and kindness shown to him during his residency there. He enjoyed participating in the many activities and the handi-van rides. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Jim Haupt in the Treherne United Church on Monday, December 29, at 2:00 p.m. Active Pallbearers were grandsons, Dale and Glen Lounsbury; grandsons-in-law, Darryl Young and Kevin Unrau; and nephews, Rick Lounsbury and Kelvin Hurst. Flower Bearers were grandsons, Drew Lounsbury and Blayne Lounsbury. Interment followed at the Bethel Cemetery.
