WILLIAM (BILL) NOSATY March 5, 1922 - December 17, 2003 He was predeceased by his father Matvy (Mike) in 1965; his mother Paraskevia (Pearl) in 1998 and his sisters, Ann Yurejchuk in 1993 and Mildred Lucenkiw in 2001. Bill leaves to mourn his wife Lee Rigby; her daughter Sharon (Dave) Ross and granddaughter Tara (Jason) Caldwell. He also leaves to mourn his three children, Diane (Jim) Balonyk, Nadia Peterson, and Gregory; two grandchildren, Donna (Craig) Cornell and Cory (Denise) Peterson and four great-grandchildren, Kassidie and Nicholas Cornell and Madison and Tyler Peterson; he also leaves behind his beloved Auntie Teenie Jaskiewich (Popowich) cousin Carol Jaskie and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bill graduated Grade 12 at Daniel McIntyre High School and danced with the Wasyl Avramenko Dancing School from 1927 to 1943. In his business career he was in the fur industry, the retail clothing industry, and in the hotel and hospitality industry. Bill was very community-minded and cherished his participation in many business and community organizations, particularly in the Ukrainian community. His affiliations included: Charter membership in the brotherhood of the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Mary The Protectoress; Board Member of Holy Family Nursing Home; Board Member of the Ukrainian Professional and Business Club of Winnipeg; Board Member of the Order of St. Andrews; Board Member of Sons of Ukrainian Pioneers Club; Executive Member of the Manitoba Hotel Association; Member of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (Provincial Council and Winnipeg Branch) Member of the Quadra Club; Member of Oseredok Ukrainian Museum; Member of Manitoba Parents for Ukrainian Education; Member of Ukrainian National Home; Member of the Manitoba Centennial Commission; Director of the Ukrainian Theatre and Member of the Lions Club. Bills dedicated participation in the local community earned him several awards over the years - a Community Service Award presented by Mayor Steven Juba; Holy Family Home service award, Honorary Life Membership in the Ukrainian Professional and Business Club, Taras Schevchenko Medallion, Honorary Membership in the Kyiv Pavilion, and Honorary Lifetime Membership in the Winnipeg Curling Club. We are all richer for his having contributed in so many ways to our Winnipeg community. Over the past two years Winnipeg Regional Home Care provided Bill with intense daily home care and the family wishes to send a heartfelt thank you to all of his providers for their very kind care. And lastly, the family wishes to extend its heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses and medical staff at St. Boniface Hospital, particularly Wards 5A and 5B, where he spent his last two months. They couldnt have provided any more considerate care than the immediate response to all his needs that they so compassionately provided. We are grateful he was in such caring hands. Bill will be greatly missed by his family and the many friends he made over the years. Prayers will be held at Korban Funeral Home, 907 Main St., at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, December 28, funeral mass at Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Mary The Protectoress, 822 Magnus Ave., 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 29, followed by interment at Glen Eden Cemetery, 4477 North Main St. Pallbearers will be: Greg Nosaty, Jim Balonyk, Cory Peterson, Dave Ross, Bill Lucenkiw and Jordan Smook. Honorary pallbearers are: Terrence Yurejchuk (Ohio), Joseph Yurejchuk, Bruce Wilson, Richard Nosaty, Brien Zajac (Vancouver) and Garry Peterson (North Carolina). In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
