Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNA REDEKOP It is with sorrow at her passing on December 26, 2003 and rejoicing at a life well lived that we say "Good-bye" to our dear Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother. Mother was born in Dolinowka, Orenburg, Russia, on February 4, 1907, the second youngest of 14 children of Johann and Agatha Block, all of whom have predeceased her. In 1926 she moved to Canada with her widowed mother and some members of her family. They arrived in Winnipeg and settled on a farm near Steinbach. After several years, and more moves, Mother arrived in Winnipeg, lived in the Mary-Martha Home for young women and worked as a domestic. She graduated from Winkler Bible School, working in Ninette TB Sanatorium in the summers. In October, 1935, she was married to Henry H. Redekop, who was busy with his theological studies at Wesley College (now U of W). After some years in Winnipeg, they moved to Winkler with their two children, Ernie and Adeline, where Father began his teaching career at Winkler Bible School. Three more children, Ted, Clarence, and Viola, were born there. Mother was a very supportive helpmate for Father, who frequently invited students to our home. As well as looking after a family of seven in a two bedroom home without modern conveniences, she supplemented the family income through her work as an outstanding seamstress. Through her insistence and diligence, all five children took lessons on various musical instruments (two for each). Mother was also very active in the Winkler Mennonite Brethren Church. After many years, during which Father had also been Principal of the Bible School, Mother and Father moved to Winnipeg in 1961. Mother worked as a home care worker and became quite active in Portage Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church in different roles including that of Deaconess. Many university students boarded in their Winnipeg home during this time. After Fathers death in 1967, Mother continued to be very active, enjoying her travels all over the world. Mother moved to Lions Place for ten years, before her last move to Calvary Place, where she was lovingly cared for by a wonderful staff. Mother was predeceased by her husband Henry, her son Clarence, and her granddaughter Nikki Redekop. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Ernie, Adeline (Hugo) Muller, Ted (Marilyn), Viola (Dan) Prowse; her daughter-in-law, Magdalene Redekop; her grandchildren, James Redekop (Lori Welland), Andrew Redekop, Anna Redekop (Alan MacDonald), Sarah Redekop, Jeff Muller (Christy) , Krista Muller (Andrew Aschett), Tanis Muller (Chris van Wellegham), Carl Muller, Corey Redekop (Cathy), Lisa DeGroot (Mike), Ted Redekop (Patricia), Jonathan Redekop, Susanna Redekop, Chad Prowse, Matthew Prowse, Sarah Prowse, Paul Prowse, Rachel Prowse; and great-grandchildren, Chanelle and Braedon Muller, Kieron and Elena Aschett, Hannah van Wellegham, and James, Cameron and Jordon DeGroot. Mother is remembered for her unwavering faith in God, her love and care for her family and her fellowman, her great determination and persistence, often under great difficulties, and her insistence on learning and education. Our family is very grateful to the staff at Calvary Place, especially Third Floor North, who looked after Mom with such love and consideration during her last four years. A celebration of Annas life will be held on Friday, January 2 at 11:00 a.m. in Portage Avenue MB Church, 1420 Portage Ave. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so on Thursday, January 1 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Chapel.
