Born: Jun 12, 1915
Date of Passing: Dec 25, 2003
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHOMAS ERNEST FICK June 12, 1915 - December 25, 2003 It is with sadness, but with a sense of peace, that the family of Tom, or Ernie as he was known to some, announce his passing at the Riverview Health Centre after a long period of declining health. He was predeceased by his parents Polly and Ernest; his only brother, Walter Clarence; and by his daughter-in-law, Myra. He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Grace Elizabeth; his son Ross; daughter Heatherann Morton (Mike) and granddaughter Tanji Irwin (Michael), all of Winnipeg, as well as grandsons Gavin (Patti), Colin (Sherrell) and granddaughter Shannon James (Grant Therrien) of Calgary, Alberta. He was great-grandfather to Brandon, Carson, Leah, Jeffrey, Alyssa, Dalton and Ireland. Tom was born in Winnipeg and resided here all his life. He was employed by the Winnipeg Electric Company and drove a streetcar for many years before becoming a Bus Driver for Winnipeg Transit. He eventually became the Business Agent for the Transit Union, a position he held for many years. He continued to work for Transit as a route scheduler until his retirement. Tom was active in sports, both as a participant and spectator. His first love was curling and during bonspiel time, it was not uncommon to hear him making plays as he talked them through in his sleep. He followed the old Gold Eyes baseball team and in later years, became an avid golfer and was proud to have scored a hole-in-one. He was a supporter of his grandsons hockey in the early days of outdoor rinks and listened to many hours of bagpipe music as he supported his granddaughters Highland dancing. He and Grace spent many hours playing cards, and until his death could still direct a game of solitaire. Words cannot express our gratitude to the wonderful staff and volunteers of Riverview Health Centre, AB1, for the care Tom received during his stay as well as for the thoughtfulness shown to the family. Cremation has taken place and by request, there will be no service. Interment will be privately held at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. A donation in Toms memory may be made to a charity of ones choice. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY & CREMATORIUM 885-9715
