GLADWYS EVA JOHNSON (nee BURKE) November 13, 1919 - December 26, 2003 Glady died at St. Boniface Hospital from a stroke suffered on Christmas Eve. She leaves to celebrate and cherish her life her husband Arnold; children, Arnold (Lori MacLachlan), Muriel (Bob Njegovan), Mark, Anne (Terry Macyk) grandchildren, Milica, Kate, Mitch, Jennifer, Andrew, Robyn; and three great-grandchildren, Kane, Liana and Abigail; sister Joyce; brothers, Frank, Allan and Douglas; as well as numerous relatives and friends. Glady was a teacher with over 30 years of experience in Manitoba schools, where she was admired and respected by both staff and students. She found troubled boys to be a particular challenge, but, with her combination of charm and persistence, she usually succeeded. Providing snacks often helped. "Bribery and corruption", as she put it. At home she devoted herself to the well being of her family and took pride in their achievements. To have a home and a family was her greatest joy. Gladys life was centred in the Christian faith by lifelong involvement in the Anglican church, whether as worshipper, chorister, Sunday School teacher, Altar guild member, or as hostess of countless church gatherings. She will be remembered for her warm hospitality. Her favourite entertainment was to prepare and to share a meal with family or friends. Her retirement life was enriched by opportunities to care for grandchildren Jennifer, Andrew and Robyn. They will miss her abundant love. Glady had a green thumb, her yard a riot of colour in summer and the house in winter. She loved to read and to travel but frequently gave up personal pleasures to serve the needs of others. Her abundant energy, commitment, and enthusiasm to get things done were a great gift that sustained her to the end. Her generosity was boundless. The service will be held at All Saints Anglican Church (Broadway and Osborne) on December 30 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gladys memory may be made to Agape Table, in care of All Saints Church, 175 Colony St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 1W2, or to the charity of your choice. The family wish to express their gratitude to the emergency room staff at St. Boniface Hospital and to ward 5A for their prompt, professional and compassionate care for Glady and for each of us. Thanks be to God. Bardal Funeral Home 843 Sherbrook Street, 774-7474 Condolences: www.bardalfuneralhome.com
