RONALD G. H. WILSON
Date of Passing: Dec 29, 2003
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRONALD G. H. WILSON Regretfully, we announce that following a year of poor health, Ronald passed away peacefully on Monday, December 29, 2003 at the Deer Lodge Centre at the age of 81 years. He leaves to mourn two daughters, Janice Wilson and friend Don and Joanne Marlett (Daryl) granddaughter Sarah; four sisters, Sheila Cotton (Wilford), Cicely Sadler, Vera Parker and Iris Stinson (Jack) ex-wife Natalie, mother of their two daughters; as well as two good friends, Mabel and Emily. Ronald was predeceased by his parents, Sarah and Jim Wilson; and two brothers-in-law, Lyman Sadler and Percy Parker. Ronald was born in Minitonas, MB and moved with his family to Kenville, MB, where he spent his early years and attended school. After his schooling he joined his father in the trucking business, hauling livestock, grain and draying for a few years. He then joined the army serving in England and Holland. On his return, he had his own trucking business, hauling gravel in and around Calgary for several years. In 1956, he returned home when his father died and took over the family farm. For a number of years he worked hard on the land, which he thought was paradise. Eventually the land was leased out and his hope was to remain in the house. So it was a great disappointment when his eyesight deteriorated and was unable to drive. He moved into Swan River and was able to get around, enjoy events and the Legion. The Barber Shop quartet he sang with afforded him a lot of pleasure. His heart was giving him problems, so he moved to Winnipeg, where medical attention was more available. For a few months he was able to get around, taking in different events, the Legion, and found pleasure singing in the CNIB choir. Unable to stay in his apartment, he spent six weeks in the Victoria Hospital and then went to the Poseidon Care Centre. When an opening came available he went to the Deer Lodge Centre for a brief period until his death. Ronald loved to travel and had toured the Southern States, British Isles, South Africa, Columbia and returned to Holland for a visit. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 3 at 2:30 p.m. in Kenville United Church, Kenville, MB. Our heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses in the three facilities and to his sister Vera who visited faithfully, ran errands and looked after Ronalds affairs. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Ronalds memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of ones choice.
