JOHN WILLIAM HALISCHUK 1919 - 2003 Peacefully on Tuesday, December 30, 2003, surrounded by his family, John passed away at the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit. John is survived by his loving wife Helen; his sisters, Mary (John), Frances (Gary) and Teresa (Cliff) sons, Alex (Carol), Bill, Robert (Kimberley) daughters, Bernice, Carol (Curt) 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his father Alexander; mother Tillie; brothers, Nick, Joe and Mike; sister Anne and son-in-law Rolly. John was born in Arborg on June 18, 1919. He married Helen in 1940 and started raising their family on the farm in Rathwell. He went on to become a store keeper in Belmont, MB. John returned to farming in Haywood, MB for a few years before settling in Winnipeg. There he worked at the Health Sciences Centre and then ventured in his own damp-proofing company, Wee-Doo-Tar until his retirement. In his retirement he worked for the municipality of West St. Paul in the summer, cutting grass. He enjoyed his hobby of wood working. His handy work will be enjoyed by many for years to come. He also enjoyed fishing, RVing south, card games and his grandchildren. A special thanks to the home care workers for their kindness and care in the past year. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday January 6, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Glen Eden Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Holy Ghost Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the Glen Eden Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers donations in Johns memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
