Stan was born in Liverpool, England to Robert and Clara Kennaugh (nee Salt) on August 13, 1913. When Stan was two years old, the family moved to Yorkton, SK where he was raised. Stan was a member of the boys choir of Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Yorkton. He was a guitar player for the Gellert Brothers Swing Kings, a Yorkton band in the mid 1930s. Stan began his profession as a printer with the Yorkton Enterprise, followed by employment with the Saskatoon Star Phoenix. After the War, he was employed by the Winnipeg Free Press in the composing room, holding the position of composing room superintendent for 28 years until his retirement in 1978. It was at the Free Press where he met and trained Edith Skelding as a Linotype operator. They were married on August 9, 1947 and spent 55 years together. Stan and Edith were longtime parishioners of St. Philips Anglican Church in Norwood where they lived for many years and raised their family. Stan was an avid golfer, enjoyed summers at the cottage at Otter Falls in the Whiteshell, and loved to travel, taking numerous long and short trips. He was an amateur radio operator for many years with the call letters VE4XP. Stan had a sharp wit, enjoyed a good joke with family members and loved his role as father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Due to his years in the printing profession, Stan made efforts to insist on correct spelling and grammar.
