Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNORM MICKLEWRIGHT October 19, 1917 - December 26, 2003 Died peacefully at Victoria General Hospital early on Boxing Day, 2003. Survived by loving wife Gina of 59 years; son Russ (Kim) brother Malcolm (Connie) and nephews, nieces and granddaughter. A native of Winnipeg, Norm had a long and illustrious career in broadcasting. After early work in commercial radio at Kirkland Lake, North Bay, Brandon and the MTS station CKY in Winnipeg, he became a member of the first CBC announce staff in Winnipeg and in 1944, the first CBC radio broadcaster based in Saskatchewan, at CBK Watrous. In 1948 Norm returned to CBC Winnipeg, where he worked as announcer and then as music producer until 1977. After his working career, he was one of the original volunteers of Creative Retirement Manitoba and also recorded many talking books for the CNIB. He continued working with both organizations until just before his death. He was long involved with the Elderhostel Movement, and was also a volunteer with the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra. Throughout his life, Norm was a lover of music - he and Gina were once described as the most ardent arts supporter in Winnipeg for the many concerts, plays and arts events they attended. His enthusiasms included the environment, a love of pets and wildlife, and a passion for visiting and travel, especially by train. At Norms request, there will be no funeral, and no flowers. If desired, please make donations to the Humane Society. He wrote the way he wished to be remembered was simply this: "He loved, and he was loved: that was enough"
