Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILFRED JOHN BOWYER May 8, 1914 - January 1, 2004 After a lengthy illness, Wilf passed away January 1, 2004. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 67 years, Margaret; his sister Anne Faint of Kamloops, BC; sons, William and James (Kathleen) daughter Bev; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Wilf was predeceased by a brother and sister in Australia at a very young age (names unknown), also sisters, Agnes, Margaret, and Mary; brother John, all of Winnipeg, Albert of California, and son Albert of Winnipeg. Wilfs mother and father had left England and had quite an adventurous life in Australia before settling in Winnipeg around the turn of the century, where Wilf was born in 1914 in the north end of the city. He left home at a young age to seek employment when jobs were very scarce. He traveled throughout western Canada working on tough physically demanding jobs, finally securing a full time job with Canadian Pacific Railway in the early thirties, where he was employed until retiring in 1974, never missing a day of work. Wilf served his country in the Second World War in the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserves where he was stationed at Halifax, NS, as a shore patrol officer. Wilf will be remembered for his willingness to help others, his fondness of the outdoors and his eagerness to tell a joke. In accordance with Wilfs request, cremation has taken place and no memorial service will be held. A private interment will take place in St. Marys Cemetery in the family plot at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wilfs memory to the Victoria General Hospital. Special thanks to staff at Victoria Hospital for their dedicated care.
