ALBERT (BERT) FREDERICK COTTON It is with sadness and great regret that we announce the passing of a dear husband, brother and uncle at the Deer Lodge Centre on January 2, 2004 at the age of 81, after a lengthy but courageous battle with respiratory disease. He leaves to mourn his passing, his loving wife of 57 years Lorene; his brother Fred; brother-in-law Fred Beeston of Winnipeg; and sister-in-law Marge of Vancouver. Also numerous nieces and nephews who all loved and depended on Uncle Bert at various times in their lives. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother George and wife Jenny and brother Alex all of Vancouver. Bert was born in the Sturgeon Creek area where he resided all of his life. He was employed by Frigidaire and also Refrigeration and Appliance Service in the early days of refrigeration. He then was employed at Eatons for 11 years in charge of refrigeration at the downtown store as well as the mail order building, while obtaining his Engineering Degree. He then was employed as Chief Engineer at the Grace Hospital for 17 years. In 1976 he took employment at the than Deer Lodge Hospital until his retirement in 1982. Berts passion was trailering and for 30 years prior to and after retirement, Lorene and Bert travelled to the U.S. staying and enjoying many resorts, parking their trailer which was a home away from home and travelling about visiting many towns and cities and enjoying the countryside. They then discovered Western Canada and fell in love with Clear Lake. They would spend most of the summer at Clear Lake where they met many people over the years, some of which are still friends to this day. Bert also enjoyed his yard which he kept to perfection as he was a perfectionist. All friends and relatives enjoyed "Berts Fountain" which was a sight to behold and still is. He loved entertaining his many friends who frequently stopped by for an evening chat or a game of cards. His nieces and nephews were his joy and each and everyone of them spent quality time with him on an ongoing basis. He will be sadly missed, but remembered forever. Many thanks to Arnold Risbey, Doris Blair, Elianne and Frank Barnes and Josie Aymes for their help and compassion through these trying times. Thank you to brother Fred for his every day visits to the Centre. Special thanks to the fourth floor nursing staff and all the workers for their gentleness and caring of this very special man. In lieu of flowers if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, January 6 at 11:00 a.m. Msgr. Ward Jamieson officiating. A luncheon for family and friends will follow the mass. "If someone were to ask me what a perfect day would be, I would not ask for special things to do. I would say, just give me one more day, to spend and share with you". Love Lorene NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
