Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHOMAS WILLIAM (BILL) GARTON Peacefully on January 1, 2004 in Hamiota District Health Centre, Hamiota, Bill left us to be with his beloved Edith who predeceased him on October 31, 2001. He was also predeceased by his daughter Ivy Joy and his granddaughter Sherry. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved children, Billie (Allan), Charlie (Heather), John, Bob (Angie), Pat, Jean, Judy, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and friends. Bill was born on March 13, 1918 in Homefield, MB and grew up in that area. He spent his younger years on his dads farm and working for a neighbour. He then went to work for a farmer in Griswold. During this time he met Edith and they were married on September 5, 1942 in the Kenton United Church. Bill went to war for Canada in 1942. He was in the 59th artillery regiment to begin with and ended up in the 13th artillery regiment. He came home in the fall of 1945 and went to work on Gordon Hunters farm. He stayed there until he moved to his own farm in the fall of 1954 where he still resided today. Bill was an active member of the Knights of Pythias and the Royal Canadian Legion for many years. One of his activities that he enjoyed was curling with his friends in legion bonspiels. In later years he spent many nights playing cards with his neighbours and friends. Bills family came above anything else. One of Bills favourite sayings when family was coming was "that the thundering herd was on its way and he would have water and a toothpick waiting." Another favourite saying to family and friends was to "come again when you cant stay so long." We wish to thank the doctors and nurses at Hamiota Health Centre for the excellent care given to Bill during his stay. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200 - 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held January 5 at 2:00 p.m. at the Kenton United Church, Kenton, MB with Rev. Glenna Beauchamp officiating. Dad we know you and mom are together again and will be watching over us today and always. God saw that he was weary And the hill was hard to climb, So He closed his weary eyelids And whispered "Peace Be Thine." Arrangement entrusted to Campbell Funeral Home of Hamiota. (204) 764-2744
