WILLIAM (BILL) LEWIS On Thursday, January 1, 2004, William Lewis, beloved husband of Bette Lewis, passed away at the age of 84 years. Beloved father, father-in-law, grandfather, Bill is also survived by sons, David (Olwyn) and Rick (Barbara) granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Keelyn, Carlee and Nikki; brother Harvey (Norma) of Vancouver and brother-in-law Harry Tyler of Long Beach. Bill was born William Kane Lewis on January 26, 1919 in Melita, MB. Bill worked for 43 years at the Manitoba Liquor Control Commission retiring as Audit Manager. He served with the RCAF in communications and radar in Newfoundland during the Second World War. His passions were volunteering with the Winnipeg Minor Hockey Association, Winakwa Community Club and later with the Riels Major Junior Hockey Club. An avid sports person through and through, Bill in his younger years loved playing baseball and hockey, later playing a good game of curling and golf, then cheering on his sons in hockey and football and watching with pride his grandchildren figure skate, play soccer, volleyball, basketball and hockey. Before ill health took over, Bill enjoyed spending winters in Mesa, Arizona with Bette and both new and longtime friends. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 6 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (South of the Royal Canadian Mint). A gathering of family and friends will be held in the reception centre following the service. A private interment will take place in the family nitche at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family wishes to thank the staff of 4B, St. Boniface Hospital and Dr. P. G. Mehta for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bills memory to a charity of choice.
