Date of Passing: Dec 16, 2003
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTREVOR NICHOLL Mr. Trevor Andrew Taylor Nicholl, aged 30 years, of Armstrong, ON, tragically taken on Tuesday, December 16, 2003. Trevor was born on May 6, 1973, in Sioux Lookout, ON, only son of Ernie and Donna Nicholl. A resident of Armstrong since 1974, Trevor was educated through public school in Armstrong, then attended Hammarskjold High School. He resided with family and, as with his many classmates in Armstrong, commuted home for weekends and holidays. Trevor enrolled for two years at Confederation College Aircraft Maintenance to follow his passion for aviation. Since his first ride in an aircraft with Mr. Jack Lundstrom of Armstrong at the age of three, followed by his Dads purchase of a J-3 Cub by the time he was five, his path in life was determined. His parents career change to family run air charter outpost operation in 1981 furthered his love for flying. His love of flying encompassed the flight, history, engineering, mechanics and even personality of aircraft, especially those with a Canadian heritage. Following in his sister Jennifers footsteps, he was employed with Huron Air & Outfitters since the age of 14 with weekend and summer jobs to start, then obtaining his pilots training at Harvs Air Service in Steinbach, MB. He not only acquired knowledge but he contributed to the vocation he pursued. Trevors remarkable personality, work ethics, and affinity for the rugged, hard working wilderness adept people that flew with him shaped his life choices. Trevor was a major part of the team, supplying a public service in the Armstrong area, with his father and sister and many friends in similar vocations. In these pursuits, Trevor garnered a multitude of friends and touched many lives in the short time he was with us. Trevors love for flying and aircraft still only came second to what meant the most to him - his own children. His young family included Taylor, age six; son Corey, age 4; and daughter (Daddys girl) Samantha, age 3. He hoped to instill in them his love for the North. When the season or the climate kept Trevor grounded, he loved to fish, hunt, snowmobile and visit with friends. In addition to Trevors many talents, he was an excellent chef and baker. Trevor sought to absorb and preserve the aviation knowledge and expertise of his mentors, Frank and Mary Kearney (of Kearney Aircraft), Gord and Eleanor Hughes (Northland Aircraft), Bob Oja (All Air), John Knutson (Aircraft Technical Services), most recently Ed Gaffrey (Winnipeg River Aircraft), Peter Hotchins, Bruce Bailey and Steve McLeod of Transport Canada. He was always willing to learn the facts and share the knowledge. Trevor is survived by his three children, Taylor, Corey and Samantha; wife Mandi (Amanda Harman) Nicholl; his parents Ernest and Donna (nee Duff) Nicholl; sister Jennifer (Ed) Chwastyk; niece Jordan Chwastyk; grandparents Tom and Verna Nicholl of Winnipeg, MB, Olga Duff (Baba), Ron Melnychuk of Thunder Bay; uncle Douglas Duff and Susan Laakso of Armstrong, aunt Jo-Anne (Glenn) Campbell of Thunder Bay, aunt Heather (Nick) Rozic of Thunder Bay, aunt Gwen (Mervin) Zirk of Edmonton, AB, aunt Elaine Nicholl of Edmonton, aunt Patti Stefishen (Neil Muryn) of Winnipeg; numerous cousins and extended Nicholl, Duff and Harman family as well as many lifetime friends regarded by Trevor as family. He was predeceased by his grandfather William Duff, July 29, 1973, and his special aunt Noel Duff, November 25, 1990. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 23 with funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Andrews Roman Catholic Church, 292 Red River Rd., presided by Rev. Dan Debano. Services to be completed in the church with cremation to follow. Visitation for family and friends was held on Monday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. with vigil prayers at 7:30 p.m., the same evening in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland St. A memorial service was held at Our Lady of the Snow Roman Catholic Church in Armstrong on Sunday, December 28. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Trevors memory to the Nicholl Childrens Trust Fund, in care of the Bank of Nova Scotia, 745 Hewitson St., Thunder Bay, ON P7B 6B5.
