GERALD A. RUSKIN October 6, 1931 - December 20, 2003 It is with profound sadness, we announce the passing of Jerry Ruskin following a courageous battle with cancer. Jerry is survived by his loving wife and soulmate of 49 years, Sharon, loving children Randa Ruskin, and Marshall Ruskin (Karen Bauhs), brother Robert Ruskin (Rivian), nieces Eileen Ruskin, Kayla Dawson (Neil), great-nephews Cole and Blair Dawson. He was predeceased by his parents Clonie and Ella Ruskin. Jerry was born in Winnipeg, and attended Isaac Brock, Gordon Bell, and graduated from Kelvin High School. He went on to the University of Manitoba. Jerry managed The Yardstick Fabric Ltd., then was an assistant manager for the Hudson Bay Co. He became a manager at Simpson-Sears prior to the store opening at Polo Park. His career with London Life began as a sale representative in 1963. He was then promoted to sales manager in 1971, and to regional manager at Winnipeg Main - Kingsford in 1981, retiring after 30 years, in April 1993. Following his retirement Jerry and Sharon spent several winters in Tucson, AZ making many friends. Jerry volunteered at the Carondolet Hospital, Emergency Room, and also volunteered at Seven Oaks Hospital when in Winnipeg. He was a volunteer business advisor working for C.E.S.O. (Canadian Executive Service Organization) in the International Division. This position took him and Sharon to many parts of the former Soviet Union, to Vladivostok, to Irkutsk, Siberia, and to Moscow and St. Petersburg with many stops, and many friends made along the way. Jerry and Sharon also travelled extensively through Australia and Southeast Asia, Europe, Morocco and much of Canada and the U.S.A. Funeral service was held at Congregation Etz Chayim on Monday, December 22, 2003, conducted by Rabbi H. Balser. Interment at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kenneth Chernick (Ottawa), Larry Ruskin (Calgary), Neil Dawson, Cole Dawson, Morris Kagan, Steven Horowitz. Honorary pallbearers were Mitchell Wagner, Robert Lenoff, Russell Rebizant. Shiva was held at #306 - 2000 Sinclair St. The family is grateful to Drs. C. Moltzen, R. Bard, R. Wong, N. Ahmed and B. Abbott, the wonderful nursing staff on 4 H.S.C. and on 5A St. Boniface Hospitals, the Palliative Care Team at St. Boniface Hospital with special thanks to Bonnie Johnson and Joanne Mills. Memorial donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba - Research Renal Cell or to Congregation Etz Chayim. Jerry will be deeply missed and remembered with love by his family and friends.
