Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryAUDREY EMBRY 1911 - 2003 Audrey Rae Embry (Plaxton), 92, died peacefully at Victoria Hospital on December 23 following a brief illness. Audrey was the fourth daughter of Harold and Victoria Plaxton and was born on March 25, 1911 at Fort Garry Court on Broadway. The family soon moved to a new house on Yale Street, on the then southern edge of Winnipeg. She graduated from Kelvin High School and attended the University of Manitoba where she was a charter member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. While at the university she met her future husband, Ashton Embry, a gregarious, fun loving American. Audrey and Ashton were married in 1934 and they lived in various American cities before settling in Washington, DC. Sons, John and Ashton were born in 1941 and 1946 as bookends to the Second World War. Audrey returned to Winnipeg in 1949 following the dissolution of her marriage. It was back to the southern edge of the city when the family moved into a house on Niagara St. between Haskins (now Grosvenor) and Jackson (now Corydon). She remained there for over 54 years until her death. Her main preoccupation was to ensure that her sons got a good education. She was active in the Womens Auxiliary of St. Andrews United Church and enjoyed the company of friends and relatives. In her later years she provided much assistance to her sisters and brother as their health failed. She will be missed by John, Nancy and Britt Embry of Toronto and Ashton, Joan, Matt, Dean and Duncan Embry of Calgary. The efforts and patience of many health care workers who helped Audrey over the last seven years are greatly appreciated. Special thanks are due her neighbour, Eleanor Ganas, who provided many kindnesses over many years. Audreys ashes will be buried along side her mother, sisters and brother in the family plot in Elmwood Cemetery. THOMSON Funeral Chapels - 669 Broadway - 783-7211
