ISABEL FORBES LAING Peacefully, on Sunday, January 4, 2004, in the presence of loving family, Isabel Forbes Laing passed away. Isabel was predeceased by her parents Alexander and Julia Laing and by siblings, Margaret Laing, Jenny Laing, Alex Laing, Amy Miller and Aileen Crease, and by her nephews, Bobby and Dick Laing. She is survived by her sister Anne Easton; brother-in-law Howard Miller and by eight nephews and nieces, Jack Laing (Margo), Janete Laing, Judy Whitmore, Tom Crease (Deb) all of Winnipeg, Sheila Jonasson (Jack) of Lockport, MB, Bill Easton (Audrey) of Lac du Bonnet, Rob Easton (Lorraine) of Grand Marais, MB, Fred Crease (Diane) of Regina, SK and Anne Miller (Steve) of Sydney, BC. Lifelong friends, Leith Dunsmore, Nell Reid and Maisie Burling will miss their dear friend. Isys life of 92 years was remarkable in many ways. Trained as a seamstress, Isabel had a talent for designing and sewing. Many brides were more beautiful for her handiwork. A long time employee of Eatons of Canada, as a manager of the "Fancy Goods" department and later as a contometer operator, Isy was sad and indignant at the closure of her beloved company. Those who remember the beautifully decorated Eatons windows have Isy to thank for many of the costumes on the little manikins. Isy was the second oldest of seven children, five of whom were redheaded as were their parents. She was proud of her hair and of the Scottish heritage it proclaimed. One of the great pleasures of her retirement years was the visit she paid to Scotland to visit cousins there. Throughout her life, Isy remained very close to her extended family and took great pride and pleasure in watching the accomplishments of her nieces and nephews and of their children. The family wish to express thanks to the staff and residents of Woodland Courts and Tudor House of Selkirk for the affection, companionship and care they provided and to the staff at Selkirk General Hospital - Surgical Ward. A memorial service will be held for Isabel at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Portage Ave., Thursday, January 8 at 3:00 p.m. with interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the Selkirk General Hospital, P.O. Box 5000, 100 Easton Dr., Selkirk, MB R1A 2M2 (attn. Ms. Struch).
