Cam was predeceased by his parents, Sarah Ellen (Dobbs) and George Stranger Whittington; his sisters, Phyllis, Ruth, Nellie (in infancy) and his infant grandson Michael. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife and life partner of 57 years Martha; his three daughters, Linda (Dale) Vosper, Kathy (Ian) Hamelin and Judith (Keith) Walsh (Vancouver) his brother Jack (Cora) and sister Muriel (Dick) and his good friend and sister-in-law Irene McNeill. Cam was born in South River, ON on October 24, 1921. He joined the RCAF in 1941, beginning a distinguished 31 year military career. His wartime service included duty with the RAF Ferry Command in Africa, the Bahamas, and Europe, and the RCAF Transport Command in Canada. He also served in the Korean War. Following the war, Cam continued his military career by serving with Training Command in numerous locations across Canada. Cam retired from military service in 1972. He began a second career as a Human Resource Planning Officer with Manitoba Hydro. Cam retired from his second career in 1982. During the war years, Cam met love of his life, Martha, in Montreal. They were married on October 12, 1946 and spent 57 inspirational years together. Cam was a kind compassionate man who was energetic, affable, well-liked and respected by all. Above all, however, Cam was a family man and a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. The greatest gift a man can give to his children is to love their mother unconditionally. This was Cams gift to his wife and daughters; a gift that continues to shape our lives today. The family would like to extend a special and loving thank you to the wonderful staff at Deer Lodge Centre (T3 and T5) where Cam resided for the past 6 years. The compassion, devotion and care of all Deer Lodge staff was exceptional, and ensured that Cam was content and peaceful to the end. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate Cams life will take place on Friday, January 9, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimers Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. HIGH FLIGHT Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings Sunward Ive climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of. Up, up the long delirious burning blue Ive topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace Where never lark, nor even eagle flew. And while with silent lifting mind Ive trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space Put out my hand and touched the face of God. CHAPEL LAWN 885-9715
