IDA (CHAYA) GLUZ
Date of Passing: Dec 22, 2003
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIDA (CHAYA) GLUZ Peacefully, with her family at her side, Ida (Chaya) Gluz passed away Monday, December 22, 2003, at the Seven Oaks Hospital. Ida was born in Yaroslav, Poland, where she resided until the German invasion of 1939. Shortly thereafter, she and her family were transported to Siberia where she worked in the forests until they were liberated in 1945. In 1946, in Vasseralfingen, Germany, she married David, and later they welcomed their only child, Bina (Beatrice). They immigrated to Canada in 1948 and settled in Winnipeg. Ida taught herself English by first going to school, reading newspapers and magazines, and eventually novels, which she faithfully borrowed from the public library until her illness prevented her from continuing with her passion. The pursuit of knowledge only came second to her love for and devotion to her family and friends. Throughout her life she lovingly encouraged her daughter, and then her grandsons, Mark and David, to pursue higher education and to never stop learning. Their many accomplishments were a source of pride and "naches" for her, and their achievements were in no small part due to the example she set. This influence will continue as her legacy. Ida will be remembered as a selfless devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Dave; her parents Moshe and Fradel Salzberg; and her sister Mania. She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter Beatrice (Ron) her grandsons, Mark (Kathi) of Los Angeles and David; her brother Dave (Cecile) and sister Helen of New York; as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Those she leaves behind will never forget her generosity of spirit, her kindness, and her gentility. Her memory will forever be cherished. Funeral services were held at the Chesed Shel Emes on Wednesday, December 24. Pallbearers were Mark Elfenbein, David Gardner, Herb Alter, Ron Koffman, Mickey Elfenbein and Hymie Fox. The family would like to thank the staff of the Sharon Home for their kindness, and especially Aurelia Magpantay for her compassionate care and devotion. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
