SHIRLEY MENZIES Peacefully on January 4, 2004, at Health Sciences Centre, Shirley Menzies passed away at the age of 85 after a lengthy battle with heart disease and kidney failure. Shirley leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory daughter Lynda Thickett and grandchildren, Lani and Alden Siminoff of Canora, SK; son Don Menzies of Penticton, BC, and grandchildren, Lisa, Cindy and Debbie Menzies; great-grandchildren, Damyen, Kieana and Tanner. She will also be sadly missed by her favourite cousin Audrey (Wray) Bone of Winnipeg; special niece Madeline Hodgins; and many nieces and nephews and their families. Auntie Shirley was always a favourite aunt to many; also her many dear friends, including our dear friend and Moms helper when her daughter couldnt be there, Alvena Neufeld; another dear friend of many years, Janette Armstrong of Los Angeles, CA; and her more recent friend at Tuxedo Villa, Elizabeth Easterbrooke who always supported Mom when she was down. She was predeceased by husband Wilfred Menzies; parents Mabel and Norman Armitage; brother Allan Armitage; sisters, Gladys Blanco and Irene Visca; and very dear friend and companion Dave McCullough. Born August 6, 1918, Shirley lived most of her life in Winnipeg, attending LaVerendrye and Earl Grey Schools. She was employed at Super Craft, Quintons Cleaners and Manitoba Telephone System. Shirley had a contagious smile and a wonderful personality. She loved her family and adored her grandchildren. Many thanks to the Central Dialysis staff at Health Sciences Centre for all the T.L.C. shown to my mother and Lynda during our difficult time at the hospital - it was greatly appreciated. Your kindness will always be remembered; also a special thanks to the staff and friends at Tuxedo Villa for their kindness, support and caring during her stay there. Flowers gratefully declined, but donations in Shirleys memory to Health Sciences Centre, Central Dialysis Unit, 820 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1R9, would be appreciated. At Shirleys request no formal service will be held, but we will all keep her near to our hearts in the many beautiful memories we have of her life. As we say goodbye for now, we thank you, Mom, for the example of all that is true and good in life. You have shown us how to live life to the fullest, enjoy all that life has to offer without judgment, trust in Gods way and love each other. "Until we meet again, Mom, We Love You Forever."
