Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALBERT E. SAVELA After a brief illness, Albert (Al) Savela passed away peacefully on January 8, 2004, at the age of 80. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 58 years, Dorothy, his family and numerous friends, including special friends Donna, Terry and Aaron Youmans. Albert was predeceased by his mother, Annie, in 1967, his father, Waino, in 1970, his sister, Sylvia, and his daughter, Barbara, in 1980. Albert was born and raised in Fort William, Ontario. After finishing school, he worked in bush camps in the Thunder Bay area before joining the armed forces and serving in numerous locations in Canada. After their marriage, Albert and Dorothy soon moved back to the Thunder Bay area where Al worked at various jobs before joining Swift Canadian in the early 1950s. He worked there until the late 1960s, when he moved to Winnipeg to join Glacier Foods. After several years with Glacier, he moved to the new J.M. Schneider plant in Winnipeg in 1970 and worked there until his retirement in 1986. Following retirement, Albert and Dorothy enjoyed spending winters in Texas and summers in Manitoba. Albert was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. He was fond of gardening, camping, fishing, oil painting and just puttering in the yard. His easy-going manner and sense of humour will be greatly missed. A memorial service for Albert will be held at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 637 Buckingham Road, Winnipeg, MB, R3R 1B9 on Monday, January 12 at 2:00 p.m. Our thanks and gratitude go out to Pastor Leon Gilbertson, the emergency staff and staff on the GD-4 ward at the Health Sciences Centre, staff at the Seven Oaks Hospital, as well as family and friends for their support during Alberts illness. In lieu of flowers, friends and family can send a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 2B7, the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or a charitable organization of their choice.
