ORVIS FLOYD "SPUD" SKELTON This is the obitbulkloaduary of our dear father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Spud Skelton, who left us suddenly on Monday, January 5, 2004 at the age of 85. Dad, who was Spud to all who knew him, was predeceased by an infant daughter Wendy, his only son Wally and his parents. Dad will be sadly missed by his three daughters, Judy Dunn of Watson Lake, YT, Carol (Mel) Enstrom of Stonewall, MB, Sue Skelton of Abbotsford, BC; his siblings, Irene Grantham of Carman, MB, Ruby (Jim) Ormiston of Naramata, BC, Alex Skelton of Duncan, BC, Fred Skelton of Roseisle, MB, Terry (Thelma) Skelton of Parksville, BC; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and special friend Janet Woods of Carman, MB. Dad had a special relationship with his eldest grandchild Diana Brown, her husband Mike and their three sons, Michael, Darryl and Jamie who were always there for him when he needed a hand. Dad grew up and spent his adult life in Carman where he raised his family. His first career job was as a projectionist at the Boyne Theatre. In 1956 he left to take a position as a technical operator with CBC Radio/TV, where he worked until he retired in 1978. Dads life was filled with many passions, including HAM Radio (VE4OS), airplanes, flying and spending hours working on projects in his work shop. Two of his proudest accomplishments were building and flying his home built airplanes (Skelton Special No. 1, and Skelton Special No. 2). Another highlight was building a remote-controlled lawnmower that actually worked. Dad enjoyed life to the fullest and when he wasnt tinkering in his shop, he looked forward to spending time around a table with friends at the Legion where they were known to lift a pint or two. Funeral services will be held at Carman United Church on Monday, January 12 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Catherine Waldie officiating. Interment will take place in the Greenwood Cemetery, Carman. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Carman Legion, Branch No. 18, Box 98, Carman, MB R0G 0J0. Arrangements entrusted to Doyles Funeral Chapel (204-745-2045).
