EVELYN JONASSON On January 10, 2004 at Calvary Place, Evelyn Jonasson died peacefully at the age of 90 years. Predeceased by her husband Jonas, Evelyn will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Iona (John) Roadhouse and Marlene (Ken) Beaty; and grandchildren, David and Christopher Roadhouse, Kristen (Norman) Buchanan, and Matthew (Christie) Beaty; also her sisters, Muriel Collins and Mildred Hatch; and her brother Keith (Liz) Ebbern. Born in Sinclair, MB in 1913, Evelyn grew up in a number of small towns in southern Manitoba, where her father taught school. Early in life, she displayed great interest and talent in music. She studied at Brandon University and received her ARCT degree in piano from the Toronto Conservatory in 1934. Following that she began teaching piano lessons, a profession that she continued for most of her life. In 1942, she met and married Joe, and subsequently began her second career, that of parenting two daughters, Iona and Marlene. Evelyn also played the organ at Sturgeon Creek United Church while her two children were growing up on Harcourt Street. Later, she became an active member of Harstone United Church, then the Worldwide Church of God and lately, Deer Lodge United Church, frequently offering them her musical talents. She very much enjoyed travelling with her husband Joe and, later, with friends. During her retirement years, she also spent many hours volunteering at Deer Lodge Centre, where she played the piano for residents. Evelyn spent the last three years of her life at the Metropolitan Kiwanis Courts, where she had made some good friends. Sincere thanks to the staff there, to the Home Care staff, to the staff at Heritage Lodge, and finally to the staff at Calvary Place who so warmly received her and her family. Interment will take place at Chapel Lawn Memorial Garden, 4000 Portage Ave. at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14. A memorial service will be held at Deer Lodge United Church, 2093 Portage Ave., at 3:00 p.m. on the same day with Rev. Peter Douglas officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, to CNIB, or to the Canadian Bible Society.
