CHARLES DERBITSKY December 25, 1923 - January 10, 2004 With much sadness in our hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Charlie at his home. He was a dedicated family man. Those he left behind will never forget his generosity of spirit, kindness, and happy nature. He was always the very strength and center of the family. His memory will be forever cherished. He was born in Glendale, California and moved to Winnipeg with his mother when he was six months old. Charlie lived his remaining years in Winnipeg. He married his wife, Doris (nee Flom), December 12, 1943, his wife of 60 years. He started his business, Veteran Furrier in 1949 and his business has been as much a part of our lives as it has been of his. He continued as the owner of Veteran Furrier for the rest of his life, as he had a love of working with furs and servicing his customers and friends. Charlie was a Veteran of the Second World War and has been a regular volunteer and member of the legion. He currently is the First Vice President of the General Monash Legion. We are very proud of his many activities in the community as a volunteer. He was a long time volunteer with the Hebrew Sick Benefit Association and he was a founding member of the Beth Israel Synagogue. Charlie is survived by his wife, Doris; his children, Harold Derbitsky, Shaaron Small (Jim Small), and Royle Derbitsky (Faina Derbitsky) as well as his grandchildren, Angie Derbitsky, Carissa Derbitsky, Andrew Derbitsky, Brant Small, Melinda Small, Daniel Derbitsky, Kyle Derbitsky, Ryan Derbitsky; and other relatives and friends. The funeral is at Congregation Etz Chayim 123 Matheson Avenue E. 10:30 a.m. The internment will be at the Hebrew Sick Benefit Association Cemetery on McPhillips. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charlies memory may be made to the "Daniel Derbitsky Endowment Fund" at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba 477-7525.
