VICTOR CLARKE HESS Peacefully at his home in Victoria, BC on January 11, 2004 in his 92nd year. He will be deeply missed by his wife Mary Alberta (nee Edwards) of 64 years; his son Milton (Julie) daughter Rosemary (Stuart Lawrence) and his daughter-in-law Susan. He was predeceased by his son Gerald and his brother Gordon. He was Grampa to Jeffery, Gregory, Jonathan and Adam, Christopher, Matthew, Sarah, Leah, Rachel, Todd and Robin and Great-grampa to Julia, Andrew, Kirsten and Samina. Born in Palmerston, ON, he grew up in Calgary, AB. Graduated from the University of Alberta 1934 in Chemical Engineering. On graduation he joined the Canada Malting Co. Ltd. serving in Calgary, Montreal, Winnipeg and Thunder Bay. He met his bride-to-be in Lethbridge and they were married April 7, 1939, starting life together in Montreal. He was a member of Rotary International for 45 years and served on the Boards of the United Way, Boy Scouts of Canada, St. Johns Ambulance and the United Church giving quiet assistance where needed. Victor retired in 1977 and moved to Victoria in 1983 where he and Mary enjoyed many wonderful years in the community. Memorial service will be held at the First Metropolitan United Church, 932 Balmoral Rd., Victoria, BC on Thursday, January 15 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Allen Saunders officiating. Reception will follow in the church hall. Cremation entrusted to Hatley Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Open Door, 935 Pandora Ave., Victoria, V8V 3P4, or the Mustard Seed Church, 625 Queens Ave., Victoria, V8T 1L9 or to the Victoria Hospice Society, 1952 Bay St., Victoria, BC V8R 1J8 or the charity of your choice.
