Metro was born in Sylvan in 1922 and lived in the area all of his life. He bought his Ridge farm from the Hudson Bay Company in 1939 for $50.00. The yard site is surrounded by all of Gigis beloved trees. Planted and nurtured by his loving hands. Neighbours asked for slips, Gigi would sneak in, do the job and ask permission only when his beloved plants were ready for their new home. I would say no, but Dad knew the answer was always a yes. These were his pride and joy along with his grandchildren. In 1980 the family moved two miles down the road to Gigis parents farm, carrying his pruners to trim his forest when he would come to visit. Gigi worked the bushes in Sioux Lookout and Red Lake, ON for a couple of winters. He also worked up north doing pulp and lumber. Metro was an active church, school board and cemetery member. He petitioned for better roads and drainages in the area. In 1980 Metro purchased the farm from his parents. Prayers will be held on Friday, January 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Arborg (MacKenzie) Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 17 at 10:30 a.m. at the Arborg (MacKenzie) Funeral Chapel. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be George Ferris, Albert Shewchuk, Leonard Gulay, Allan Lindal, Murray Shepell and George Hibbert. Instead of flowers, donations in Gigis memory may be made to the Sylvan Church or cemetery. Arborg (MacKenzie) Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
