HATHA ABRAMSON (nee HALLDORSON) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Hatha Abramson. Hatha passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter Karen, on the morning of Wednesday, January 14, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. She was 79 at the time of her death. Hatha is survived and will lovingly be remembered by her daughters, Karen Gallo, Christine Young and Janice (Ken) Westman; sons, Ralph, David (Sue) and Richard (Karen) and many grandsons and granddaughters. Hatha was predeceased by her father Jon; mother Lilja; sisters, Gina, Kristen, Dora, Freda, Rickie and Stephanie; brothers, Fred and Johnny; and infant daughter Jane. Hatha was born in St. Vital on May 18, 1924, the fifth daughter of Jon and Lilja Halldorson. There were nine children in the family, and Hatha grew up in a loving and caring home. She grew up and attended school in Norwood. In 1949, Hatha married Joseph Abramson. Between 1950 and 1964, they had seven children. Hatha was a truly wonderful mother, caring for, nurturing and loving all her children in the same even handed fashion and to the same extent. In 1965, Joseph Abramson abandoned his family, and Hatha was left to raise and care for six children on her own. This was not an easy thing to do, but the family always managed to get by. Mom was always the stabilizing force from whom all of us could draw strength in times of need. As a result of Moms steadfast commitment to family values, our family endured and grew strong in spite of adversity. Mom was not an extroverted or vocal person, but she had an inner strength and indomitable spirit that was the rock of our family. She was a seemingly inexhaustible source of love, which she meted out freely and without constraint to her children and grandchildren. Mom, we will miss and love you forever. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, the family would request that donations be made to CancerCare. A memorial service celebrating Hathas life will be held at Edward J. Coutu Ltd., 680 Archibald St., on Saturday, January 17 at 2:00 p.m. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: EDWARD J. COUTU LTD. 680 Archibald Street 253-5086
