Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCHARLES C. DAWSON Peacefully on January 15, 2004, Charles (Chuck) Dawson passed away at the age of 87. He was predeceased by his parents Frona and Ben Dawson; brothers, Ken and Bill; and sister Melissa. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Irene; daughter Sharon (Ken) Johnston of Calgary; son Ron (Susan) Dawson of Winnipeg; five grandchildren, Tracy, Trevor and Kevin Johnston, Chazz and Quinn Dawson. He is also survived by his sister Dorothy Hooker of Winnipeg. Charlie was born in Winnipeg on November 19, 1916. He received his education in Steep Rock, MB, which remained one of his favourite places. He served in Canada and overseas during the Second World War with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals. In 1947 he left the Army with the rank of Sargent. In that same year, he married Irene. He was a longtime member of the Charleswood Legion. His career of 30 years was with the Canadian Pacific Railway in Winnipeg, retiring in 1977. Charlie loved music and sports. He played many instruments by ear, but especially enjoyed playing the guitar and harmonica. Even recently, he entertained the patients and staff of the Dialysis Unit with his harmonica during his treatments. Baseball was a lifelong love. He played in his younger years in Steep Rock and Grahamdale. Most recently, Charlie played with the Charleswood Seniors Slow Pitch League. He also enjoyed golf up until his 85th year. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staffs of the Dialysis Unit and D5 of the Health Sciences Centre. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate Chucks life will take place on Saturday, January 31 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Reception to follow in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre.
