NICHOLAS TCHIR October 10, 1923 - January 14, 2004 It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden death of our loving husband, father and Gigi at the Beausejour Hospital on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 at the age of 80 years. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Anne; his sons, David (Joyce) of Hazelridge and Norman (Gillian) of Winnipeg; and his two special granddaughters, Janice and Melissa. He is also survived by his sisters, Nettie Shirley (Vancouver) and Olga Tchir (Winnipeg) as well as many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews and dear family friends. Nick was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Harry Tchir; brother Peter Tchir; sisters Rose Tchir and Anne Baluk; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and relatives. Nick was born in Winnipeg on October 10, 1923 and moved with his family in 1935 when they started farming in Hazelridge where he still resided and farmed at the time of his passing. During the Second World War from 1942 to 1945, Dad served with the Royal Canadian Air Force (435 Squadron) in operations over Burma, and often reminisced about his adventures of flying the "hump". Dad again took to the skies when he earned his private pilots licence in 1975. After war time service, Nick returned to Hazelridge to take over the farm as well as working full time, first as a dragline operator with the R.M. of Springfield for over 20 years. Then in 1970, Nick started working at CN (Transcona Shops) as a Carman, retiring in 1988. It was on November 18, 1950 that Nick married his loving and devoted wife, Anne (Kuzyk) in Cooks Creek, Mb. Nick was very involved within his church and community. He was a long-time devoted member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Cooks Creek, working and contributing fully with all church activities. Along with his friends and neighbours, Nick worked and was instrumental in the building and development of the Hazelridge Legion/Community District Hall and Hazelridge Curling/Sports Complex. Nick was a member of the Hazelridge Legion Branch #146 for over 35 years, mostly serving as President during those years. Dads opinions and determination were as strong as the machines he operated, his devotion to his wife and family was as broad as the open fields that he farmed and he had the love of all in his heart. He will be deeply missed. Prayers will be offered on Sunday, January 18 at 7:00 p.m. from the Sobering Funeral Chapel, Beausejour. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, January 19 at 10:30 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church, Cooks Creek, Mb. with Rev. Fr. T. Kowch officiating. Interment to follow service in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bob Shirley, Jim Tchir, Todd Sereda, Dennis Kuzyk, Louis Osiowy and Brian Nazarko. Our heartfelt thanks to Dr. D. Corder and staff of Beausejour Hospital for their care and comfort shown to Nick and his family during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Nicks memory to the Beausejour Hospital or to the Immaculate Conception Church, Cooks Creek, Mb.
