Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEMIL KISHYNSKI February 24, 1914 - January 15, 2004 After a lengthy illness Emil Kishynski passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Phyllis (Turner) and his daughters, Virginia Petch, Diana Sokolowski (Z. John), Patricia Sokolowski and Pamela Poley (Barry) seven grandchildren, David (Paula) and Christopher (Jodi) Petch, Mark (Lisa) Sokolowski and Kristyn Hall (Rob), Kevin (Anita) Sokolowski and Kathleen and Collin Poley and five great-granddaughters; brother Eugene (Audrey). Emily was born in Transcona and spent his early years in Winnipeg. As a young man he ventured to Red Lake, ON where he fell in love with the rocks and trees. Dad loved the outdoors and called Red Lake "Gods Country". During the Second World War he served his country in the RCAF and was stationed in England and Africa with the RAF Radar Division. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion (Red Lake). While in England he met Phyllis, the love of his life, in Dorchester and they were married on August 23, 1945. Emil returned to Canada with Phyllis and they moved to Red Lake. Dad worked as an electrician at Campbell-Red Lake Mine, moving to Balmertown in 1957 where he and Phyllis resided until 1982. Emil and Phyllis retired to Winnipeg and enjoyed 22 years watching their grandchildren grow. Emil was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who never tired of playing cribbage with his grandchildren. He was the champ! He had a sweet and gentle nature with a wonderful sense of humor, qualities that we will always cherish. He taught us honesty, loyalty, courage and order by his quiet example. He was especially passionate about science and the universe and read voraciously until his eyesight began to fail. The family gives thanks to all the blood donors who helped us to enjoy Dad for three happy "extra" years. We thank the Victoria General Hospital Oncology Department, especially Drs. Scurrah, Maxwell and Sharkey and all the nurses and technologists who looked after Dad. We especially want to thank the Palliative Care Unit at Riverview Hospital for their compassion, warmth and loving care given to our father. A memorial service will be held at the Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint) at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 20. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Victoria General Hospital Oncology Department.
