JAMES PEARCE Peacefully with his loving family by his side, Jim Pearce passed away on January 15, 2004 at the age of 87. He was predeceased by his wife Zelly in 2001, infant daughter Judy, sisters, Beth and Betty, and brothers Mel and Joe. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Russell (Irene) of Winnipeg, Sherry (Norman) of Calgary. Sister Isobel and husband Harry, sisters-in-law, Alice and Phyllis, brother-in-law Mac, grandchildren, Christopher, Erin, Rhett, and Carla, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was a loving and caring individual who always thought of others before himself. He was born in the Pearce district and spent most of his life on the farm, where he also operated the school bus service. In 1966 he and his wife Zelly moved to Morden to enjoy semi-retirement. Jim had a way of brightening your day and making you feel better about yourself. He treated all people in his life whether they be family, friend, or someone he just met with his wonderful personality and willingness to help. During semi-retirement, Jim became an active member of the community, dedicating himself to helping others by participating in various volunteer activities, including Meals on Wheels. He was involved in ELKS for 37 years and was named ELK of the year in 1972 - 1973. In 1985 he was awarded Citizen of the Year in recognition of many years of dedication to his many activities but especially in the area of assisting the sick and less fortunate. Jim and his wife spent their retirement travelling around North America, from coast-to-coast as far as their car would take them. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing, playing cards with friends, or just enjoying coffee with family, friends, or strangers. And will be missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank family and friends for their support, specifically Harry and Isobel, Alice, Kola and Annie, Frank and Darlene and Mary. We would also like to thank homecare workers Bev and Janet for their extra special care and support and home visitors Ray and Rick for their wonderful companionship. Funeral service will be held from St. Pauls United Church in Morden, on Tuesday, January 20 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Doug Craig officiating. Interment will take place in the Darlingford Cemetery, Darlingford. Memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis Society, Suite 105-386 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 3R6.
