JOAN MARY WILKINSON (nee PROCTOR) It is with deep sadness that the family of Joan Mary Wilkinson announces her passing on January 16, 2004. She leaves to mourn her sons, Lorne (Beverley), Paul (Barb), and her daughter Harlyne (Gord), and grandchildren, Andrew, Sarah, Garlen, Zoe, Troy, Todd and Cory. Mom was predeceased by her husband Harvey, October 4, 1984. Mom was born in Sheffield, England October 30, 1926, and immigrated to Canada in March of 1947 to begin a new life with her future husband in Winnipeg. Mom and dad built a home together in Weston where we were raised until 1970, then built their second home in Charleswood. Mom also helped Dad build our family cottage in the late 60s. Mom worked for many years as a circulation manager for a magazine publishing company, before retiring in 1987. Mom was also an active member of the British Wives Club and became president of the club for two terms. She was also a regent of the International Order of the Daughters of the Empire. After retirement Mom kept busy volunteering for such groups as the Fort Whyte Centre where she worked on the reception desk and also for a short time as an Interpreter. She also was involved with the library at The Irish Club of Manitoba. Mom loved to do crafts and spent many hours creating things that will be forever a legacy from her to all of us and our children. She also liked to travel and went to Europe and on cruises with friends after her retirement. Mom also loved animals and was never without a dog until just recently, she was also our built in babysitter for all our pets when we wanted to go on holidays. She was never far away when any of us needed assistance of any kind. She will be sadly missed, but will always live in the hearts and minds of her loving family. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 20 at 2:00 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1858 Portage Ave. The family wish to express a special thank you to the staff at Charleswood Care Centre for the care and compassion they showed our mother. Flowers are gratefully declined and donations in Joans memory may be made to the Tourettes Syndrome Society of Manitoba, M-4 McEwen Bldg., Tourettes Syndrome Service, St. Boniface Hospital, 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6 or The Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 1X3.
