Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNORMAN EARL HANSON On Sunday, January 18, 2004 after a very courageous battle with cancer, Norm passed away very peacefully at the Riverview Health Centre at the age of 78. Norm was predeceased by his loving wife Sophie in 1995. He is also predeceased by his sister Ruth and brothers, Roy, Carl and Bud; infant granddaughter Angelica and special friend Evelyn Williams. Norm will be sadly missed by his four children, Linda and husband John Hunter, Shirley and husband Derek Barnes, Robert and wife Sheila Hanson and Larry and wife Tammy Hanson. His seven grandchildren, Linda, Abby and Ivy Hanson, Maggi and Steven Barnes and Randy and Mathew Hanson. Sisters, Kay, Hazel and Frances; brother Albert. Many other relatives, good neighbours and friends, including special friend Nikki Yuzak. Norm was born on March 23, 1925 in Winnipeg. As a young boy, he grew up with his family in East Kildonan. At the earliest opportunity, at the age of 18, Norm joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served his country with honour during the last two years of the Second World War, returning to Winnipeg after the war. Following in his fathers footsteps, Norm apprenticed as a pipe fitter. Shortly thereafter he met his life partner Sophie Misurka. They were married on October 3, 1953. Together they raised four children. He spent most of his career at Randalls Plumbing and Heating Ltd., where he remained for over 30 years, becoming a partner in the firm, until his retirement in 1989. One of Norm and Sophies passions was travelling, and after Norms retirement, they spent their winters down south as well as several trips overseas. Norm was a very kind and compassionate man. His family always came first, where he took great interest in his childrens and grandchildrens activities. He loved the many family dinners and gatherings and his house was always open. Norm and Sophie were longtime members of the Fort Rouge Legion, where they had developed many lasting friendships. He looked forward to his daily walks regardless of the weather, and also loved gardening. Starting in August, he would routinely deliver bags of fresh red tomatoes to family and friends. The family would like to sincerely thank all the medical staff that attended to Norm during his illness. Especially Dr. Garcia and all the wonderful staff at Riverview Health Centre 3 east. We were so fortunate to find not just caregivers, but friends as well, and cannot say enough about the incredible care given to our dad and the entire family while he was there. We will always have a space in our hearts for those special people who looked after us so well. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 21 at 1:00 p.m. in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. If friends so desire, donations may be made to Riverview Health Centre Foundation, 1 Morley Ave. Winnipeg, R3L 9Z9, 478-6271. THOMSON Funeral Chapels - 669 Broadway - 783-7211
