JOSEPH STEWART TELFORD 1914 - 2004 On Sunday, January 18, 2004, Dad passed away peacefully at the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg, at the age of 89 years and 11 months. Dad was born February 3, 1914, in Belmont, MB, and was the eldest child of Maggie and Grover Telford. He grew up in Grenfell, SK, but resided most of his adult life in Winnipeg. Dad was predeceased by both his parents in 1981, and by his only sibling, Robert, in 1987. Dad married Evelyn Bernice English on August 14, 1948, in Cardale, MB. In addition to Bernice, he is survived by daughters, Brenda St. Hilaire (fiance Neil Kelly), Heather Bell (Rick) and grandchildren, Andrew, Aimee, Emilie, Karen, Keith, and Diane. Dad was a member of the 17th Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery, 5th Canadian Armoured Division, from 1939 to 1945, and he proudly attended all of the regiments reunions with great enthusiasm. Dad owned and operated the J.S. Telford Insurance Agency in Winnipeg for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed many hunting and fishing escapades with his large circle of friends. Beginning in 1957, he spent many happy summers at Wendigo, building and improving his cottage, dock, boat ramp, and the community water works. Dad continued to enjoy these activities well into his 80s, until failing health finally slowed him down. For the last two years, Dad was a resident of Riverview Health Centre, and the family would like to thank Pat Yamada and the staff of C4 for the dedication and compassion they provided to our father and grandfather. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service and celebration of his life is planned for Friday, January 23 at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel of Riverview Health Centre, located at 1 Morley Ave., in Winnipeg.
