HELEN ALBERTA SIM June 7, 1911 - January 19, 2004 Peacefully on Monday January 19 at the age of 92, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Helen Sim passed away at Victoria General Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband Jack in 1984; her son Brian in 1987; her sisters, Kathleen (Kay) Magarrell, Rita Wells and her brother Charlie Harrison. Helen is survived and will lovingly be remembered by her daughter Delaine Mortimer; her son Don (Heather) Sim; grandchildren, Todd (Denise) Mortimer, Kim Gregorashuk, Daniel, Charlene and Rebecca Sim. Great-grandchildren, Logan Gregorashuk, Jackson and Duncan Mortimer. Her sister Mildred Sweeny; her brother Lloyd (Wilma) Harrison and her sister Grace (Doug) Parr, and many nieces and nephew. Helen was born on June 7, 1911 in Cadallac, SK. She moved with her family to Manitoba in 1927 and graduated in 1933 from Misericordia School of Nursing with a gold medal in Surgical Nursing. She married Jack Sim on October 5, 1935 and moved to the Sim farm at Domain in 1944. This is where her love of gardening began to flourish, between all her flowers and gardens. She was a chartered member of the W.I. and also a member of the UCW of Avonlea United Church. In the 60s she began an interest in ceramics and taught from her home, which led to her passion and continuing enjoyment in china painting until recently. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 22 at 2:00 p.m. in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. Interment will follow in Avonlea Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Todd Mortimer, Kim Gregorashuk, Daniel Sim, Charlene Sim, Rebecca Sim and Monty Magarrell.
