EDITH EGLIN Peacefully on January 21, 2004 at the West Park Manor Personal Care Home, Edith Eglin, aged 97 years, of Winnipeg and formerly of Selkirk, MB. Edith was predeceased by her husband Lawrence Garland Eglin in 1950. She is survived by her daughter Lauran Warrian; her son-in-law Keith; granddaughter Allison and grandson Kevin. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was born on April 19, 1906 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Edith celebrated her first birthday on an ocean liner coming to Canada where her parents eventually started a homestead in Ashern, MB. She married her husband Lawrence on July 1, 1923. They settled in Selkirk where Edith resided until 1990, when she moved to Winnipeg to be close to her family. Edith was active in the Selkirk United Church for many years, being instrumental in organizing the first CGIT summer camp, being past president of the Selkirk United Church Women and having taught Sunday School for 17 years. She enjoyed playing the piano, reading, bridge, canoeing, snowshoeing, golfing, curling and was a life member of the Selkirk and District Curling Club. Edith served as Guardian of Bethel #4, International Order of the Jobs Daughters and was a past Matron of Selkirk Chapter #35 Order of the Eastern Star. She received her 50 year pin in 1995 and was the last surviving member of the charter members. She is also a past secretary of the Manitoba Government Employees Association, Selkirk. Edith was a needlewoman and enjoyed sewing, knitting, embroidery, crochet and has left many lovely family heirlooms. She enjoyed spending many summers at her cottage at Sevensons Point. An independent individual. Edith faced lifes ups and downs with equanimity and will be remembered for her quick wit and graceful manner. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 27 at 2:00 p.m. in the Selkirk United Church, 202 McLean Ave., Selkirk, MB with Steve Wilson officiating. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff of West Park Manor Personal Care Home for their kindness and excellent care, as well as to Dr. David Young and Dr. Oliver Bereznay. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Winnipeg Humane Society. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
