LAYNE HUFF Layne Huff passed away on January 22, 2004 at Selkirk General Hospital after an honourable fight with cancer. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Sandy; children, Julie Zimmerman (David) and Jeff; grandchildren, Emily and Peter; parents, Ted and Rilla Huff of Swan River, MB; siblings, Gord of Red Deer, AB, Kerry of Whitehorse, YK, Karen Edwards (Ron) of Regina and Arva Kalynyk (Ken) of Winnipeg. He was loved like a brother by Susan Raback of Winnipeg, Robert Falk (Rose) of Winnipeg, Nancy Turton (Lewis) of Swan River, Charlotte Marchuk (Darcy) of Winnipeg and Judy Meixner (Wayne) of Winnipeg and mother-in-law Gladys Devlin of Lockport. Layne was born the first child of Ted and Rilla on June 23, 1948 in Swan River and delighted them and brought them joy every day of his life. Being from Swan River was a source of pride for Layne. Throughout his school years he never missed a day of classes. He loved the outdoors immensely and one particularly special memory for him was his canoe trip down the length of the Assiniboine River when he was 17 years old with his childhood friends Ray Fulford, Gord Hornbeck and Ted Gibbings. Being at "the lake" was also a great joy for him, first, for many years at Wellman Lake with the whole Huff clan, and in later years at his cabin on Lee River. He married his greatest and only love and best friend Sandy in May 1970 and they loved living life together which included raising their children, many family trips (always well planned!), laughing lots, and a kiss goodbye every morning before leaving for work. He was an active participant in the lives of his kids, which included leading beavers, driving to many sporting events at all hours of the day, skating at Little Lake, creating special gifts and many other special and unique moments. He never hesitated telling his kids of his love or pride in them. He was crazy in love with his grandchildren and used the time he was given to get to know them, love them and make happy memories with them. He truly loved his work as an electrical engineer at the Manitoba Rolling Mills in Selkirk. He worked there for 34 years and was extremely faithful and hard working for "the mill". He was well loved, respected and admired by the people he worked with there. He loved his Lord and maker Jesus Christ and was faithful to his church community at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Selkirk where he served over the years as treasurer, council chairperson, singing in the mens choir and always lending a helping hand with renovations and repairs. Layne was a man of honour and integrity - true to his word, a hard worker, giving and humble. An example of his giving heart was seen in his commitment to donating blood. He was happy to have given 99 times over his lifetime. He was well respected and was very free in giving back respect to others. He was a genuinely happy person who had an uncanny ability to make all types of people feel at ease with him and cared for by him. He always had a ready smile, a quick wit, a hearty laugh and a helping hand to all that needed it. Thank you to all our wonderful friends, family and our church family. Your prayers, helping hands and warm embraces have constantly lifted us. Special friends to mention of Laynes are Russell Skalesky, Al Weiss, Garry Streich, Darrell Reimer, Len Somerfeld, Art Gelder, Lloyd Lovell and Colin Sutherland. Thank you to those who extended care to us during Laynes journey with cancer, Darrell Hayes - you went the extra mile right from the start; Dr. Neil Barrington and nurse Jody Dusik-Sharpe - you were our caregivers and advocates and became our friends along the way. Thank you to Dale Robbins, who came to our home to ease the burden of many lab visits; Eva Smith, who talked us through many hard days and always went the extra mile; to the wonderful nursing staff at Selkirk General Hospital, who walked the last long mile with us and to Dr. Colin Fuchs who began and ended the journey with us. Thank you God for allowing our lives to be touched and blessed by the wonderful man you made in Layne Huff. Cremation has already taken place at Laynes request. A celebration of Laynes life will take place Monday, January 26 at 2:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Selkirk, MB, 6088 PTH 9A, Selkirk MB. In lieu of flowers, the family wish that donations be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
