Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLGA IWANOWSKA Peacefully on Friday, January 23, 2004, Olga Iwanowska passed away at Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg. Olga was born on March 14, 1919 in Lavochne, Western Ukraine. After completing her studies in Stryj, she worked at Maslo Soyous in Synewidsko Wyzne until 1944. In 1944, the war forced her to evacuate with her sister Eugenia and brother-in-law Michael Birakowsky and their two little girls to the Carpathian Mountains. From there they all continued westward reaching Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany where she resided for the next four years. In 1948 she immigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg. Here she first worked as a domestic to fulfill the immigration contract and later she worked at Holy Family Nursing Home at 165 Aberdeen. Due to an unfortunate illness, she went to live with her sister Eugenia and her family. Olga was a very religious person who found great comfort and peace in attending church services. Olga was predeceased by her two brothers, Roman and Yaroslav in Ukraine; sister Marijka in Ukraine, sister Anna Snihura in New York and sister Eugenia Birakowska in Winnipeg. Olga leaves to mourn two nieces, Myra Hrenchyshyn of Minneapolis, Vera Marchuk of Winnipeg and great-niece Taissa Hrenchyshyn of Chicago. Sincere thanks to the staff of N1-Nighthawk, Middlechurch Home. You all made Olga feel special because of your kindness and love. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Children of Chernobyl Canadian Fund, 2118-A Bloor Street W., Ste. 200, Toronto, ON M6S 1M8. Panahyda and Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 28 by Rev. M. Kouts at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
