WALTER WILLIAM LEMPEN February 6, 1929 - January 24, 2004 With saddened hearts we announce the sudden passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather on Saturday, January 24, 2004 at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach at the age of 74. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Dona; daughter Carol and son-in-law Adrian; son Jim and daughter-in-law Donna; grandchildren, Tracy, Cory, Crystal, Amber, Lora (Randy), Michael, Nicholas and great-grandson Landin; stepson John Huffman and stepdaughter Donna Campbell and family; sisters, Elsie LeBleu and Rose Anderson; brothers, Percy (Leah) and Gordon (Lil) and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Alice; his parents, John and Elizabeth; brother John; daughter Donna and foster daughter Dolores. Walter was born and raised in Woodridge, MB. He later moved to Winnipeg and was employed with McLean Grocers and then for Winnipeg Transit as a bus driver. He was given the Driver of the Month Award many times. He retired in 1988 after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. After retiring he moved back to Woodridge. He was an avid hunter, loved fishing, golf, billiards and playing his violin. He especially enjoyed his retirement years working in his garden, cooking, canning, making different wines and inventing all types of gadgets around his yard and home. Cremation has taken place at Walters request. A memorial service in celebration of Walters life will be held at St. Alexander Catholic Church in Woodridge, MB on Thursday, January 29 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Louis Hermansen officiating. A family interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Walters memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Rd., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1S1. A heart of gold stopped beating, Hard working hands went to rest, God took you home to prove to us, He only takes the best. Thank you God for allowing our lives to be touched by this wonderful man.
