KAROLINE (CAROL) ELIZABETH HAYWOOD (nee KREUTZER) It is with sorrow we announce the sudden passing of our dear mother and friend. She lived life with a strong spirit and was blessed with 91 years of good health and vitality. She lived with pride and independence until her passing on Friday, January 23, 2004. Her loves were her two daughters, Bev (Fox) and Fran (Delaney) and she had a special place in her heart for their spouses, Don (Fox) and Dennis (Haynes). She was predeceased by her husband Bernie in 1967 and in 1994 by her special companion of ten years Cecil (Cece) Riley whom she remembered with great love and appreciation. She also had a deep affection for her friends Laurel Oystrek and Norah Shaw who so diligently spent fun times with her over the last few years. Her only surviving immediate family member is her sister Lydia, age 88, of Whiterock, BC. Mom was born in Waldersee, MB in 1912 and lived her early years as part of a hard-working family of 12, farming in the Plumas area. She left for "city life" when she was 14 and worked as a domestic in Winnipeg and later moved to Chicago, IL and Miami, FL and worked as a waitress. She returned to Winnipeg and continued in her chosen career in the food service industry leading to the ownership of The Margaret Rose Tea Room in the now Osborne Village area. Many dinners, parties and memories surrounded the restaurant and the early years of her daughters growing up in the area. She sold the restaurant and to stay active, continued to work part time at Assiniboia Downs and the Fort Rouge Curling Club until age 68. She was known and in demand of her professional approach and the high quality of food preparation and customer service. She was actively involved in the Fort Rouge Bowling League and thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie and team challenges and received numerous trophies. She loved playing cards and bingo and, with great guilt and delight, ended last weekend winning $3 from her daughter. She was a wiz at numbers and could still add faster than a calculator! She also enjoyed helping at various teas and events at the Fort Rouge Leisure Centre and for the Canadian Cancer Society. Her heart went to Children and pets and she could often be seen cuddling both at every opportunity. She instilled the values of honesty, hard work, sharing, self-reliance and kindness for those less fortunate into her daughters and they will greatly miss her "spunk" and stories of "the old days". In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Rd., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1S1. A celebration of life will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 29 at Garry Memorial Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. GARRY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, CEMETERY & CREMATION CENTRE 1291 McGillivray Blvd - 925-1120
