Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN ELIZABETH MACLEAN (OULION) October 22, 1928 - January 23, 2004 Peacefully, Helen Elizabeth MacLean passed away on Friday, January 23, 2004 at the age of 75, surrounded by her family at Concordia Hospital after a lengthy and hard fought battle with COPD. Betty will be greatly missed by her family, son Jim (Ollie) grandchildren, Kelsey (Chris), Kristin, Rhys, Bethany, and Amanda; great-granddaughters, Bronwyn and Augusta; sister Margaret Boomer and numerous nieces, nephews and friends, including her life-long friends, Alice and George Pelletier. Betty was predeceased by her husband Tom; her son Pat; sisters, Josephine and Joanne; and brother Bill. Bet was born October 22, 1928 and grew up in St. Boniface. She later moved to Elmwood where she raised her family and lived in the same house for the next 46 years. Affectionately known as Grandma Bet by friends and family alike, her home was always open and frequently seemed to be the gathering place for her children and grandchildren and often several of their friends. She was always ready to share a story and a laugh with anyone who dropped by. Sundays were spent in Charleswood having dinner with the whole family, and then playing a friendly game of cards with her sisters and brothers-in-law. She loved spending summers at the cabin in Grand Marais with her family and friends, making sure dinners were ready for everyone after a long day at the beach. Our annual weenie roast was a highly anticipated event, filled with laughter and fun, wrapping up our summers at the lake. Grandma spent the last five years living with her granddaughter Kristin and best buddy Bronwyn with whom she had a special bond. Grandma Bet took great pleasure and pride in teaching Bronwyn how to read and they spent special time together alone in the mornings cuddling, tickling and talking about their plans for the rest of the day. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Riverview, with extra special thanks to Shauna and to the nurses at Concordia Hospital, particularly Rhonda, Linda, Betty and Matilda who went out of their way to help the family over the last week. A private family service will be held at a later date. Should friends so desire, donations in memory of Betty may be made to Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley St., Winnipeg, MB, R3L 2P4, Canadian Diabetes 102 - 310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 0S6, or Heart and Lung Association 200 - 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6.
