DIANA MARY HARROP March 8, 1922 - January 27, 2004 Beloved mother and mother-in-law of David and Suzanna, Sullivan Lake, AB, Cindy and Jim Stewart, Winnipeg, Greg and Dolores, Gimli, Geoff and Janet, Winnipeg; grandmother to Patrick, Chris, Angela and Aime. She was predeceased by her husband Al (1988) and grandson Alex (1996). Mom was born in Swansea, Wales and always took great pride in her Welsh heritage and letting people know. She joined the W.A.C. at the onset of the Second World War and served as a driver in a variety of capacities. While serving in England she met Dad and they married while both were still serving for their countries. She came to Canada as a War Bride after the conclusion of the war and described it as her greatest adventure and the craziest thing she had ever done. Mom took pride in being a wife and mother. She loved the cottage and her gardening and anyone that asked could get a tour or talk to her about plants. She also enjoyed all the family trips that her and Dad were able to share with us over the years, the two highlights being able to return to Great Britain and share with us her roots and camping on the Arctic tundra. She loved telling her stories to all that would listen. The last number of years her health was compromised by Alzheimers disease but she was able to live in her new home in Whytewold for six years before having to take up residence at the Betel Home in Gimli. Our family would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to all of Moms doctors, nurses, caregivers and friends, especially Vilborg, Norm and Alexis and our warmest thanks to all the staff at the Betel Home in Gimli for their kind and compassionate care over the last two years. A celebration of our Moms life will be held on Friday, January 30 at 3:00 p.m., St. Aidans Anglican Church (Campbell and Kingsway), 274 Campbell, Winnipeg with Rev. Ken Turnbull officiating. If so desired, donations can be made to the Gimli Community Health Centre Healing Garden, in care of P.O. Box 250, Gimli, MB R0C 1B0. TO MY CHILDREN When I spill my food on my nice clean dress Or maybe forget to tie my shoe Please be patient and perhaps reminisce About the hours I spent with you When I taught you how to eat with care Plus tying shoelaces and your numbers too Dressing yourself and combing your hair Those were precious hours spent with you So when I forget what I was about to say Just give me a minute...or maybe two It probably wasnt important anyway And I would much rather listen to you If I tell a story one more time And you know the ending through and through Please remember your first nursery rhyme When I rehearsed it a hundred times with you When my legs are tired and its hard to stand Or walk the steady pace, I would like to do Please take me carefully by my hand And guide me now as I did for you. Gilbart Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
