STEVE BLACHER It is with great sadness that the family of Steve (Tubber) Blacher announces his sudden passing at the Selkirk General Hospital on January 28, 2004, at the age of 82 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 55 years, Nellie; children, Audrey Dolinski of Sherwood Park, AB, Marcia Pearson (Terry) of St. Andrews, MB, Patricia Chubey (Don) of Lockport, MB, and Peter Blacher (Charlene) of Sherwood Park; grandchildren, Bradley, Michelle, Lisa (Dan), Chris, Jennifer, Curtis, Brittany, Kyle, Kristen; and great-grandson Dylan. Steve was predeceased by his parents Peter and Mary Blacher; in-laws Michael and Mary Sacharko; brother John Blacher; sisters, Anne Gawriluk (Peter), Jessie Homenick (Bill), Helen Phipps (Ernie) and brother-in-law Joe Starodub. Steve was born in Gonor, MB, on February 28, 1921. He married Nellie on September 25, 1948. They resided in Gonor for ten years, moving to Selkirk in 1958. He was employed at the Manitoba Rolling Mills for 41 years until his retirement in 1982. Grandpa loved to garden, and enjoyed his daily drives to Lockport and Gonor. Steve will be sadly missed by sister Jean Starodub; sisters-in-law, Mary Blacher and Evangeline Rekunyk (Nestor) brothers-in-law, Bill (Sylvia) and Ephraine (Alice) Sacharko; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Prayers will be held on Sunday, February 1 at 7:00 p.m. at the Gilbart Funeral Home on 309 Eveline St. in Selkirk, MB. Funeral mass will be held on Monday, February 2 at 10:30 a.m. at the Notre Dame Church on 269 Jemima St., Selkirk, with Father Boguslaw Wardzinski officiating. Interment to follow in the Notre Dame Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his sons-in-law Terry Pearson and Don Chubey, grandsons Bradley Dolinski, Chris Pearson, Curtis Chubey and nephew Bill Starodub. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the kind staff of the Selkirk General Hospital as well as Steves homecare workers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
