Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALVIN McKELVY TROOP April 20, 1923 - January 29, 2004 Alvin McKelvy Troop passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, January 29, 2004, after a short illness. Alvin was born in Portage la Prairie and farmed at Burnside with his father and brother. He began his career as an electrician working in Hartney, Carberry, Portage and Winnipeg. After marrying Dorothy Genest on February 17, 1949, Alvin worked as an electrician in Chatham, Windsor, Oakville, Brandon, Stonewall and Regina. The electrical work was varied and took place at a cement plant, oil refineries, automobile factory, steam plants, hydroelectric generating plant, hospitals, and a rocket plant. Alvin then worked for 25 years for the City of Winnipeg as an Electrical Inspector. During that time, his favorite pastime was square dancing with friends in Winnipeg. His love of this activity took Alvin and Dorothy around the world: Hawaii, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Australia, Tokyo, England, Germany, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Bismarck, Great Falls, Fort Francis, Kenora, Ottawa, Hamilton, Halifax, Georgia, Texas, and Arizona. During retirement, Alvin became deaf after contracting meningitis in 1990. His cochlear implant allowed him to continue to enjoy life and bridge became his primary form of recreation. In addition to his wife, Dorothy; Alvin Troop leaves his brother Orval (Gwen) Troop; children, Lucille (Bill) Dunn, Craig (Rozlyn) Troop, and Valerie (Les) Troop-Frovich; grandchildren, Bryan and Cavan (Holly) Dunn, Evan and Stephanie Troop, Trinda (Jack) Frovich-McGee, Michael, Patrick and Alexander Frovich; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as many wonderful friends. The family would like to thank the Palliative Care program and surgical team at St. Boniface Hospital for their outstanding care and support. Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 847 St. Marys Rd. at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 30. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, at Christ the King, with Rev. Fr. Renato Pasinato officiating. Interment will follow at Green Acres Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in Alvins name to Central Speech and Hearing Clinic of Manitoba, Victoria General Hospital, 2340 Pembina Hwy, Winnipeg, MB R3T 2E8.
