ANNA (ANNE) ENGLISH Peacefully on January 29, 2004, Anna English passed away at the Concordia Place Personal Care Home at the age of 99 years. She will be profoundly missed by her sister Doris Myska; son Allan (Florence) granddaughters, Beverley (Joel), Valerie, Karen (Cam) great-grandson Thomas; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Henry; her son Harold; daughters, Joan and Grace; plus several brothers and a sister. Anna was born in the Preeceville-Sturgis District of Saskatchewan in 1904 where she attended school. Her family later moved to Winnipeg where Anna helped operate a family restaurant. Anna remained behind when her family relocated to southern Ontario. She became the head cook at the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg until she married Henry in 1929. She brought up her family during the 1930s and the Second World War. When her children became old enough, she became involved in the janitorial industry, taking over a company that she owned and operated until she was 75. Her family was the centre of her life. She and Henry spent many days visiting Grace and her husband in Louisiana and Allan and his family in Ottawa and Vancouver. The family would like to thank all those who visited Anna over the time that she was confined, especially present and former residents of Old Kildonan. The family would also like to thank the staff at both Concordia Place and Central Park Lodge for the care and compassion they had shown Anna. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba 200-6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
